Protecting Water Bodies and Systems Against Waterborne Biochemical Warfare

چکیده
Water bodies and water systems are essential for survival and protecting them against terrorist threats like biochemical warfare agents and against threats from toxic industrial chemicals is of at most importance. This paper will examine the issues in protecting water bodies and water systems against waterborne biochemical warfare. We will also present preliminary ideas on a sensor network-based system to detect and prevent such threats.

متن کاملRecirculating Vertical Flow Constructed Wetlands
In parts of the United States where soils are very permeable, conventional septic tank and absorption field systems are considered the largest contributor to waterborne disease and pollution of water bodies. However, an economical, recirculating vertical flow (RVF) constructed wetland, used as a pretreatment system, can significantly improve the performance of conventional onsite wastewater tre...

Accidental industrial spills may lead to a high concentration of toxic metals in the aquatic environment, as well as affecting freshwater ecosystems with acute and chronic toxicity. Of all aquatic species, fish are particularly sensitive to waterborne contamination and are recognized as bioindicators for water quality monitoring. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the biochemica...

In addition to providing potable drinking water, U.S. water systems are critical to the maintenance of many vital public services, such as fire suppression and power generation. Disruption of these systems would produce severe public health and safety risks, as well as considerable economic losses. Thus, water systems have been designated as critical to national security by the U.S. government....
